Celebrate Chinese New Year with your kazoo!
That's what I plan to do. And there's still time to order your very own
What do Chinese New Year and kazoos have in common?
It’s a question I’m frequently not asked, but I have the answer for you anyway: Both are days that will be celebrated in the coming week.
Chinese New Year, also known as the Lunar New Year, begins on Jan. 29. National Kazoo Day is officially celebrated the day before, but actually festivities, it says here, start on Jan. 27. We kazoo players are eager to get going.
And in case you are wondering if the term “Chinese New Year” is politically correct, it is. It also has a fascinating history dating back thousands of years. This will be the Year of the Snake. But not just any snake.
I have more on all this in my latest Essential News column in Florida Weekly. And because you are a subscriber, you get notified before anyone else just as copies of the newspaper come off the presses.
In this week’s column, I also tell the story of the Florida Man who was arrested for impersonating a CIA agent, essential facts about the state’s most famous snake (the invasive Burmese python) and the secret history of Irish coffee.
