Democrats slam Pam Bondi over Epstein Files. Trump and Bondi 'are hellbent on hiding the truth'
News and views for thoughtful Floridians and other discerning Americans
Social media and news sites have been crackling with reaction to the Justice Department’s release of the Epstein Files.
Or, rather, the failure to release the files as mandated by law.
Which is weird since Florida woman Pam Bondi, whom President Donald Trump selected to be his attorney general after she held the same job in the Sunshine State, once said she had the files on her desk.
Of course, she’d just moved into her new office at the Department of Justice at the time, so that statement was certainly metaphorical, especially since the files are much too big to fit on any desktop even if stacked to the ceiling.
Indeed, Trump lawyer and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche had promised before the Friday deadline that the number of records about to be released would be enormous.
“I expect we’re going to release several hundred thousand documents today, and those documents will come in all different forms, photographs and other materials associated with all of the investigations into Mr. Epstein,” Blanche said.
Instead, only a few thousand surfaced, and many of them have been so heavily redacted as to be useless. Indeed, fully 500 pages were blacked out in their entirety.
To be clear, the legislation signed into law by Trump — after being approved by both the House and Senate on a bipartisan basis — required ALL releasable records to be turned over on Friday, not just some. It also mandated that any redactions would be minimal, primarily to protect victims of sexual abuse by deceased financier Jeffrey Epstein, his imprisoned sidekick Ghislaine Maxwell, and …
Well, that’s what everyone wants to know—who else?
We know a lot of famous people have at least been mentioned, Trump and former President Bill Clinton included. Doesn’t mean they did anything wrong, just because they knew Epstein. But how much did they know, what did they participate in, and who else is in the files?
That’s not what we found out Friday.
Which is a violation of the law.
According to The Guardian:
Representatives Robert Garcia and Jamie Raskin, top Democrats on the House Oversight Committee, released a statement on Friday afternoon that said: “We are now examining all legal options in the face of this violation of federal law. The survivors of this nightmare deserve justice, the co-conspirators must be held accountable, and the American people deserve complete transparency from DOJ.”
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has this to say:
“The law Congress passed and President Trump signed was clear as can be. The Trump administration had 30 days to release ALL the Epstein files, not just some. Failing to do so is breaking the law. This just shows the Department of Justice, Donald Trump, and Pam Bondi are hellbent on hiding the truth.
“Senate Democrats are working closely with attorneys for the victims of Jeffrey Epstein and with outside legal experts to assess what documents are being withheld and what is being covered up by Pam Bondi. We will not stop until the whole truth comes out.”
Sounds like Bondi’s in hot water. At least with the Democrats. Maybe not so much from her boss, who hated—absolutely hated—the idea of the Epstein Files being released once he was elected.
From The Hill newspaper:
Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), one of a bipartisan duo that led the effort to force a vote on the Epstein Files Transparency Act, posted a screenshot of the bill on social platform X with the language of the 30-day deadline highlighted.
On Thursday, he said there was no ambiguity with the law and what the law requires to be released. President Trump “has agreed to comply with this law” and Bondi “has to comply with it,” and there will be penalties if she does not, Massie said.
What might those “penalties” be?
Well, any Cabinet member can be impeached. We’ll just have to see how this plays out.
