The DeSantis administration claimed early on that the costs would be a pass-through to the Feds, $600 million. But then the Feds disavowed ownership in federal court to avoid a suit claiming they violated the law by not doing an environmental impact study. Not our prison, it's Florida's! To date, last time I checked, Florida had received a little more than 58 million. It is not clear to me that the Feds have the allocated funds sufficient to "repay" the state, a deal we only have DeSantis' word on as far as I know.

Several weeks ago, Gulf Coast News aired a story about Alligator Auschwitz. (I prefer Auschwitz over Alcatraz because the facility was used as more of a concentration camp for minorities than as a prison for convicted criminals.) The story stated that the State of Florida had invested $ 1.2 billion in this concentration camp and had been reimbursed less than 5% of that cost by the federal government. Since its inception, the construction of that abomination has often been without the authorization of the Legislature, without permits or inspections and through the use of no-bid contracts with firms associated with Ron DeSantis' campaign donors. I would like to instigate an investigation into the corruption and malfeasance associated with the whole Alligator Auschwitz project. The goal would be to hold Ron DeSantis personally liable for any unauthorized expenses and actions and to prosecute him for his malfeasance.
We are beginning to see some of Donald Trump’s corruption receive more public scrutiny. Ron DeSantis has the same corrupt tendencies as Trump, he just operates from a smaller platform.

Add in the cost to rename PBI airport for no taxpayer gain. Seems like a lack of fiduciary responsibility to taxpayers by our local legislature and governor. One would hope that has legal ramifications.
It sounds like misappropriation of funds to me….lets hope Florida has a quiet hurricane season, or the people who pay the bills may be looking for help elsewhere….. but where?

I believe this was a state funded project that was refunded federally from the FEMA immigration fund not the FEMA disaster fund. Let make sure we have the correct information..
I understood that the governor expected us to be reimbursed from the $45B that the bbb allocated for immigrant prisons. (You could call them detainment centers, but Alcatraz was a prison.) But then, after all that fanfare, the federal government denied the reimbursement request. Our governor and AG (who named it) rushed into this without any guarantee of our tax dollars being returned.
Do you have evidence of that reimbursement? You expect the Trump administration to reimburse a state? That still has not happened for his campaign rally costs around the country. Why would we expect to see for this? Consider what he did for years to small businesses who worked for his businesses. And expecting Congress to act otherwise would be fruitless.

What refund? Florida has spent upwards of $1 billion on Alligator Alcatraz and has only received a small fraction of funding from the Feds.
