Republican redistricting chair says it would be 'irresponsible' to wait. Critics call it a blatant 'illegal' scheme that is banned by the state's constitution.
We are in a one-sided Civil War, being fought without guns, but worse: with the Supreme Court, the White House, Congress and Republican state legislators on one side and a disparate, powerless citizenship on the other—a war that will result in irreconcilable differences for decades.
The Republican party- fighting for redistricting everywhere because they notoriously are advocates for equal representation for all Americans and not bonus representation for the select few. Thanks GOP. Instead of working on affordability crisis they'll spend the next week scribbling on maps with red crayons
Given that the SCOTUS has ruled in favor of the Texas gerrymander on the grounds that it's too close to the next election to change the maps now, wouldn't this seem to be applicable to Florida? If it's too late for TX, logically it's too late for FL. Now, I know I'm being silly, because the real rule is IOKIYAR. Of course, there's also that pesky FL constitutional amendment that should stop this cold, but again: IOKIYAR.
If the Republicans can't win without doing this to our state. We don't need this at all. You will be trying to get rid of any district that won the last time just to give the President Trumps will is sick. Watch California wait till you all do this to our country, and do what there people voted for.. Put this to a vote and see if you get everyone to approve of what you are doing.
This is yet another example of the Republican party cheating to ensure a win. I'm still reeling that there are more registered Republicans than Democrats. They are in the majority; why do they need to do anything? They don't care about their constituents, and they just do what they are told by the WH.
If the census was wrong--what has been done with the people that read it incorrectly and are they still in charge? sounds like all this should be tabled till after the mid-term elections rather than maneuvering that would be considered inappropriate at this stage of the game. quit trying to mess with established procedures till can be done between elections so proper time can be spent. doing this redistricting is only being done by Trump Puppets (Trumpettes) becauses of worries about their jobs. or ??
Without data, I would assume that the main driver against affordability is rent and mortgage payments. This could be addressed, but not by politicians involved in financial rent-seeking behavior themselves.

I don't get it. If the state Constitution explicitly bans it, how are they even considering getting away with it?

Yes, I'll take "Dummymandering" for 200...

What a mess.
