"We have actual land"—a brilliant comment. Land that developers can't wait to develop, whether it's a data center or a sprawling new city southeast of Orlando and west of Melbourne. Developers don't care so long as there's money involved. Hasn't Florida been pillaged enough by Republicans? We need change, not more of the same.
I was coming to note Donalds's horrifying statement. I hate driving South of Gainesville because so much of Florida has become a concrete and strip mall covered hellscape. Please do not make the good parts like that.

I hope all Floridians stand up against developers developing beyond the boundaries of Florida Everglades, currently being challenged by land developers on the western border of Miami Dade and Broward counties. The Florida Everglades also connects to Lake Okeechobee and the Kissimmee River ...affecting all our drinking water.

(1) What prevents those sprawling centers from using solar energy for power? Or collecting rain water for their uses?
(2) What happens when AI takes control of programming itself? If that becomes the reality, people will be a superfluous annoyance. AI will survive on a cinder.
(3) What prevents data centers from being incorporated on or under other useful structures? Put them under office and apartment buildings along noisy railroads and highways. Let them block the noise and stink. That way there would be fewer overland transmission lines to rig and maintain. Put one under Disneyland.
I predict that this 'data center' and AI boom will soon enough go to dust. In the US, AI is predicated on societal control and a theological premise that general artificial intelligence will save us all. None of these address fundamental problems that humans face, nor will there likely be any other big buyer for this kind of AI than autocratic governments. And, the big AI developers will not be able to collect enough rent to pay for their excessive buildouts.
Actually, the 'AI' moniker needs abandonment. There is no "artificial intelligence" involved in these computer systems, and the useful aspects of what we call AI are just incremental developments made over the past twenty-some years. Plus, the Chinese have shown with her 'DeepSeek' that the programming in American AI is not really very good.
Donalds gives his game away when he ascribes himself to the "Austrian School of Economics". Looking at the world today with enormous debts, wars, and a climate more dangerous every day, we see the consequences of this way of thinking. Capitalism is bad enough, but when it is fueled by the fantastic theories of the Austrians, it goes beyond perilous. In a benevolent totalitarianism, such ideas would be ferreted out and destroyed, books of 'junk economics' would be burned, and economics professors fired and sent to work picking crops. Instead, we not only tolerate them, but we celebrate them!
