DeSantis had 7+ years and many taxpayer-funded special sessions on HO insurance and produced nothing. If the state leans on the insurance companies, they will just pull out of Florida. It's a thorny issue and has been for decades. Citizens Insurance will never keep up with the rampant development in Florida for the last 70 years. You can't have every homeowner on Citizens; it's not realistic. The next governor needs to find a way to bring insurance companies into Florida to write HO insurance.

I own a dome home which is known to withstand wind damage and yet I pay a much higher premium because it’s considered non traditional. Maybe the solution is bringing homes up to hurricane/ wind damage code and less traditional.
