J C I love your column. It brings me joy especially because I’m in this hell hole red state just like you. I will upgrade as soon as bills are feasible. I’m alone and an ole lady! Just wanted to compliment you. I’m in Jax so it’s a tad bluer here.

He and you and, well, everyone with a heart and a mind should read the remarkable novel “Southernmost,” by Silas House. It’s set in Key West, an escape for a recently rigid fundamentalist preacher who out of tragedy, comes to terms with acceptance of gays in a nonjudgmental and loving way. It’s a beautiful living insightful novel. Please read it and pass it on.

Ok…a BLACK man saying anything about GAY?? It just doesn’t compute!! Aren’t they both groups that have scrambled for rights?

My youngest son is GAY and his theory goes all to hell because I suspected he was gay when he was a toddler. He was. I didn’t MAKE him that way and I don’t think there is anything wrong with it so tell him to suck an egg.

I also have a heterosexual son so there goes the theory that he was made to be that way. Funny? My gay son gave me less problems than my heterosexual one. I usually don’t give them labels but did to get the point across.

My younger son is more of a man than that crazy idiot. He’s also 6’9 so tell him to tell my son that mess.

Misinformation masquerading as authority, in search of power.

Thank you for a great article.

Didn't we call these "Christian Universities" diploma mills at one point?

I have always like your newsletter. They are factual and intelligent. It seems like no one in the news community is naming all those who are keeping trump in office. Trump is just one person, the real threat to Democracy are those behind the scenes keeping him in office.

Apart from the obvious reasons we should denounce his views as partial and nonsense, I have an inclination to believe this man has gone through some conversion therapy himself. Some of you may not understand but there's a very strong awareness that gay men possess and they call it "radar" or "gaydar". I suppose like insects know or recognize each other so do members of the gay community. It's an unspoken resemblance or a smile or something in the eyes. A facial expression. There's just something that we recognize as familiar. In more than 50 years I've never been wrong so I'm going to share my thoughts on it now. In my ability, like Bessent and some of the others which I'll refrain from mentioning and I only quote Bessent's name because it's obvious, we all know he's gay but this man has obviously, to me been through some "reflection" or conversion himself. We know by now that the ones who profess too loudly are themselves the same way. It's the human condition protecting itself from conviction. It's quite the same way projection develops in a person's character. The thief that steals who's been confronted will claim someone has stolen from him/her. The abuser often claims they've been abused. The gay politician will claim "we should pass a bill to denounce homosexuality", etc etc etc. It's a deflection. A distraction. It's to coerce people away from thought on this person by forcing you to focus on the other. The louder they profess the more tendency they feel they must cloak. After all, men who are comfortable with their own sexuality don't have a problem with gay people. It's only the ones who suppress their sexuality and preferences who do.

Is God’s image a picture of God’s sexuality? Is God a sexual entity? Is God a male, a female, or both, or neither?

I'd like to know how difficult it was to find a potential candidate to run on this platform. We don't need to worry about him being elected.

And where does he get the scientific evidence to support such a ridiculous statement? It has long ago been proved that you cannot make someone gay so obviously people begin life with the genes that make them different.

When will politicians quit talking about things that ignore science or reality? Next he’ll be echoing Trump that all liberals and Democrats are facists or communists!

This commentary is extraordinarily spot-on.

To be fair, there is no scientific consensus either way. It's the classic "nature vs. nurture". It's not clear that we're born with any sexual orientation, let alone one for the same sex. But saying it's "biologically impossible" is obviously a reach and we know what the agenda is there.

This is the only column I'm subscribed to in Substack. I find your articles factual, sensible and enjoyable. I'm more than happy to post my comments here and feel comfortable in doing so. I'm not the most articulate person and sometimes struggle to find the words suitable for my beliefs but I'm someone who believes in living life by the Golden Rule. I believe in choosing your own battles, as well and if there's a subject I feel strongly about I'll post a comment and share my beliefs. I've had five years of behavioral sciences in my education because I've always been interested in the human condition and why people do and say the things they do. I'm not always aware but I'd say 98% of the time I am. I just know that you're an attribute to your profession and will continue to read your articles as a displaced Bostonian who thoroughly enjoys the banter.
