In honor of Veterans Day, a free copy of my eBook: Tour of Duty
Thank you for being a Tropic Press subscriber.
EDITORS NOTE: This version of this post has an updated link to Tour of Duty that will be easier to upload.
Today is Veterans Day, and in honor of the holiday I have a special offer for you as a subscriber to this newsletter.
I recently republished a series of stories based on my travels with The Joint Civilian Orientation Conference—or JCOC. It’s a Defense Department initiative—established after World War II—that allows business and community leaders to have “an immersive experience with their military.”
I was among a group of civilians selected to attend, and from that experience I filed a series of reports for the Dayton Daily News where I served as editor at that time. Dayton is home to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base with about 38,000 military and civilian employees. It was through Wright-Patt that I was nominated, and for that I will be forever grateful.
Since today is Veterans Day, it occurred to me that I could share the reprint of those stories with you, which I have assembled into a small book entitled Tour of Duty: Inside America’s Armed Forces.
It’s available on Amazon and other online booksellers for sale, but, as a way of saying thanks to you, I’m providing a link free of charge that you can use to upload Tour of Duty onto your computer or E-reader.
I hope you enjoy it.
Of note: Were you to attend JCOC today, I suspect many of the observations here would be very similar, but it should be pointed out, though, that these reports were originally filed about 20 years ago. You will read in a reference to Saddam Hussein, for instance, that he had yet to be captured and killed. But even though two decades have passed, the USS Theodore Roosevelt -- the Big Stick -- is still sailing the high seas.
This is dedicated to the courageous men and women I encountered during that “immersive experience.”
I thank them for their service.
One way for all of us to do so is by remembering these words that a young airman asked me to pass along:
”There is a military. Whether we’re in a time of crisis or not, we’re ready. We need the support of the country. We need people to remember we’re here.”
How to upload
If you are uploading this into a Kindle reader, you may need to go online to the Send to Kindle program , log in to your Amazon account, and drag and drop the file into the program. Within seconds it will automatically upload into your Kindle library. I just tested it myself and it worked like a charm.
To upload to a Nook, connect the device to your computer via USB, then drag and drop the file into the “My Documents” or “Books” folder on the Nook’s drive that appears on your computer.
