STUDIES IN STUPIDITY Vol. 6
Now comes a Georgia Congressman who wants to deport an American minister because he was offended by her sermon
Bible Belt Congressman Mike Collins, the same Republican from Georgia who recently said the January 6 insurrectionists were a bunch of “peaceful grandmothers,” is now bellowing that a Washington, D.C. minister should be deported.
The preacher in question is the Right Rev. Mariann Budde who during the inaugural prayer service for President Donald Trump begged mercy for undocumented immigrants who may soon be deported. Most are tax-paying “good neighbors,” she said.
Collins found this intolerable and demanded that Trump add Budde “to the deportation list.”
Couple of problems there:
Deported to where, exactly? Budde is a native of New Jersey. I mean, it’s true that it’s a blue state, but its still in America last I heard.
Also, what exactly is the problem with a Christian minister beseeching us to be kind to the less fortunate, for invoking the word “mercy” on behalf of those in need?
Perhaps Collins is unaware that “mercy” appears in the Bible hundreds of times—in the King James version of The New Testament no less than 132 times, in fact. Jesus, who used the word often, preached that mercy is a central tenant of the faith.
Has Collins not read the Bible? A guy from the Bible Belt who flaunts his Christianity as part of his public persona? In a state with more than 14,000 churches?
Or maybe mercy means something different in his congressional district. Maybe it’s just a Georgia thing. After all, the state is also home to Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and her Jewish space laser conspiracies. Maybe it’s something in the holy water.
Mercy!
