Marjorie Taylor Greene is nuts, Trump says, pretending it's not about Epstein. But Pam Bondi, Florida's former AG, is coming to his rescue
News and views for thoughtful Floridians and other Americans
Donald Trump thinks Marjorie Taylor Greene is crazy, which is a bit like a dumpster calling a trash can smelly.
Trump didn’t think the Georgia congresswoman was nuts when she jabbered endlessly about space lasers owned by Jewish financiers starting forest fires.
He was fine with his fellow Republican when she suggested hurricanes were part of a government plot.
And he had nothing to say when Greene attacked Democrats as being part of a “global cabal of Satan-worshiping pedophiles.”
But speaking of pedophiles, when Greene suggested the Epstein Files should be released, and when she signed the House discharge petition that will force a vote on that, he lost his marbles, calling her a “ranting lunatic.”
Or, back to reality, what Trump really finds annoying is that she’s stood up to him while he has done everything in his power to block the release of the Epstein Files. He hates, hates, hates that she cares more about Epstein’s victims than him.
But Trump hasn’t been able to block the release of thousands of pages of correspondence from Epstein that has been turned over to the House Oversight Committee, which clearly shows, in Epstein’s own words, the close relationship Trump enjoyed with the child molester and that “he knew about the girls.”
And while that may be driving Trump crazy, he still has some cards to play thanks to his relationship with former Florida attorney general Pam Bondi, who now serves as Trump’s personal minion at the Justice Department (sure she holds the title of A.G., but Trump insists it’s he who is the nation’s top law enforcement officer, not her).
What did Trump do?
He ordered Bondi to reopen the Epstein investigation and target Democrats.
This, despite previous investigations that have shown no cause for prosecution. But who cares, this is about distraction and vengeance, not justice.
Bondi, to no one’s surprise, hopped right on it. “Yes, Your Majesty,” we can imagine her saying, and the Epstein case has been reopened.
What’s that mean?
Two things: The Department of Justice can now claim it can’t turn over the Epstein Files because of a new “ongoing investigation.” And Congressional Republicans, pressured to vote in favor of turning over the files, could now tell the voters back home: “Hey, it’s an open investigation, I couldn’t vote for it.”
It will be fascinating to watch how all this gets twisted around in Republican babblespeak this week.
And while Marjorie Taylor Greene may, indeed, be nuts, a lot of people have noticed lately that she’s sane enough to know right from wrong when it comes to covering for sex offenders.
It will be interesting to see how many of her G.O.P. colleagues have the guts to do likewise.

One more voice on Epstein…
Marjorie Taylor Greene is hardly the only member of Congress on Trump’s enemies list. Since her arrival in Washington, Texas Democrat Jasmine Crockett has been a thorn in his prodigious backside.
I received this from her yesterday as I was writing this column:
“Let me remind you: Trump literally ran on releasing the Epstein files. Now, his allies are doing backflips to cover them up.
“They moved Ghislaine Maxwell to what looks like a vacation resort, and now, he’s talking about pardoning a convicted sex trafficker? Make it make sense.
“Meanwhile, survivors are telling us about fake immigration papers, fake modeling agencies, and government officials who helped Epstein’s operation.
“Republicans are trying to have it both ways: They want to pretend they care about justice while protecting billionaires and predators. Enough is enough.”

Trump is too busy to take calls from ranting loonies. So explain Laura Loomer ???
My understanding is that Trump's grandpa was a sex trafficker. One can see why he would be tolerant, even if the girls were "very young."
