So well spoken. It’s time to hit the streets again for another “No Kings”demonstration ! Almost every day there is a new more outlandish outburst.

For those of us who consider "truth social" an oxymoron and never would have seen that particular sick rant, thank you for posting it. Unfortunately, the brain rot of the MAGA set, has progressed way beyond their ability to recognize reality. Trump would have to foam at the mouth and soil himself during a rally for them to suspect he might be off, and they will still rationalize it. He truly represents his base.

Chris Lowrie's avatar

He probably has, Steve!

Tedder130's avatar

Yes. We all owe Mr Bruce a huge debt for just reading that collection of poisonous verse by Trump on "Truth Social". Fancy that name, socialism is truth!

Richard's avatar

The brain rot on the left is more prevalent but there is no denying that there are cults on both the left and right.

SeaCorey's avatar

Care to even attempt to support that knee-jerk reactionary outburst that makes you look really, REALLY foolish?

Kindly describe what meaningful, organized actual "left" there is in this country (hint: Bernie & AOC ain't it... - pretty much anywhere else on this planet they'd be centrist/moderate right), to what brain rot you're referring, and most ridiculously, how the dems (as compromised & complicit as they are) have a cult comparably in any way to the trumpcult.

No rush - we'll wait...

Richard's avatar

I do not care to discuss it with you but you have a good day!

SeaCorey's avatar

Pretending that you're unwilling to discuss a statement that you are clearly unable to support on any level is more than kind of sad.

You have a good day too!

Thank you for making me not the only American who realizes how serious his condition really is. And I have a counseling degree!

Mr. Bruce you are so spot on , Trump is a scoundrel , and should without a doubt be incarcerated !

Sadly, but as usual, the right wing, nutjob, ecosystem is rushing to their cult leader's defense. There is no bottom to maga, or trump, JC. As much as we all hope there is a bottom. As trump noted long ago, he could shoot someone on 5th Ave. and not lose a vote. That is as true today as it was almost a decade ago. Everything trump touches dies, including decency and compassion.

SeaCorey's avatar

That shooting someone comment is one of the four or five true things he's said in the last decade...

How dare him speak of the late Rob Reiner like that!! Comedian? Since when? Does he even know who he’s talking about. He wasn’t failing. Trump is an idiot…so is he saying one of his idiots killed the both of them??? What a jerk off. A great person like Rob is gone and Trump is still breathing air?? That’s the sad part!

Trump is just a dumb a**

Human's avatar

We’re all victims of his derangement. Especially those who still think he is anything other than a disgusting and vile individual.

Chandra A. Hardy's avatar

Perfect title! I have always thought that any time anyone mentions it!

Karen Peterson's avatar

Hopefully, Trump's reign of terror will end the same way Hitler's did -- in an underground bunker (preferably the one under his stupid ballroom).

Human's avatar

That’s the part that baffles me, have these people never opened a history book? Do they not know how this ends for them every single time? Do they really believe they can be successful when their foundations are all lies?

Daniel P Gallucci's avatar

What is wrong with that man? And not saying much for the Republican Party who elected him twice!

SeaCorey's avatar

Couldn't agree more!

Although you may've missed 75 million or so trumpcult members who also exhibit (and dutifully project!) TDS.

Barbara Borgal's avatar

All I can say is Trump is a heck of a lot better than Biden. Trump works.

Karen Peterson's avatar

The difference between Trump and Biden is that Biden is a decent human being. Stopping by his gilded office from 10 am to 4 pm is hardly what I consider "working."

Richard's avatar

A lot of what Trump says is true about the people that hate him but this was not the time to mention it and there is no excuse for what he said on this occasion. He does have a superego and many faults but luckily for the country he is not nearly as bad as the left or this article pretends him to be. There are cults are the left and right, following any president blindly is not welcome behavior.

SeaCorey's avatar

Name something he's said that's true (other than the shooting someone comment - that's a given).

You write well and convincingly, Mr. Bruce. I, too, am convinced that Trump is a malignant narcissist. But answer me this. What is the diagnosis of the 70 million Americans who steadfast;y support him and vote him into office? Are they not apalled at the outrageous things he does and says on a daily basis? If they are, how can they vote for him? Uneducated? Naive? Unthinking? Vincictive? Jealous? Hateful? Daddy problems? Sexually insecure? If over half the voters unflinchingly support him because he tells it like it is, then over half the voters suffer from varying degrees of malignant narcissus. Trump is beyond medical help. Nothing we do or say is going to change him. The challenge is to somehow change his voters. It can't be done by attacking Trump. We indicted him in court, and his campaign contributions nearly doubled. Insightful columns like yours are a start, but how many Trumpists bother to read them?

J.C. Bruce's avatar

The gullible will always be with us. And that is true of both the right and the left. My view: Many, many Americans are fed up with politics as usual in this country and their vote for Trump can also be viewed as a vote for radical change. I think we saw some of the same sentiment on the left with Bernie Sanders. Personally, I am very sympathetic with this disenchantment, but Trump, certainly, is not the answer. Of course, you've got a lot of other personality issues going on too as you suggest. But I believe that if both parties--and independents--worked harder at addressing some of the genuine issues Americans care about, this can still be cleaned up. And, yeah, I am a bit of an optimist.

Peter Burkard's avatar

Keep in mind that only a few percentage points need to be changed, Nick, and I believe that has probably already happened, just from people coming to their senses and seeing first hand the damage that evil men can cause. With those of us on the left being massively energized and those on the other side continually shooting themselves in the foot and pushing unpopular ideas, there is certainly lots of reason for optimism for 2026. Long-term, we need a much better education system that emphasizes the teaching of critical thinking, media literacy, and science.

About 20% of voting age and just over a third of registered (not eligible) voters got conned into voting against their (and all of our) best interests - nowhere near half, much less more than half.

This is barely a plurality, certainly not a mandate.

The past several decades of dumbing-down our society & ginning up culture wars via the 24-hour news cycle, along with the abandonment of the Fairness in Media Doctrine, have been very successful at burring the line between facts & feelings.
