Parallels between Iraq and Iran wars: Both were based on faulty intel and outright lies
Florida Pollster Mark Schulman offers a sobering look at the statistics
How will the Iran war turn out?
It’s only the second day since the United States and Israel first launched their missiles and bombs, so it is far too soon to know. But there are predictors.
The theocratic country’s head of state, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed in that first wave of attacks along with other government officials. As this is written, it is unclear who is left in the chain of command and what direction the Republic will take.
That said, Trump’s Iran war and George W. Bush’s war against Iraq have ominous parallels, not the least of which is that both were based on faulty intelligence gathering and outright lies to the American people.
Bush claimed Iraq’s Saddam Hussein was developing weapons of mass destruction, and he had the uranium “yellow cake” to do it. Not true. And if he didn’t know it, he should have.
Trump told the American people that war against Iran was necessary, among a variety of reasons, to stop the rogue nation from launching long-range ballistic missiles against the United States—weapons Iran not only does not have but would need at least another decade to develop.
Trump may be hoping that he can repeat Bush’s jump in the polls that he enjoyed immediately after the bombs started falling on Baghdad.
However, there are many differences, not least of which is that Bush was already a popular president at the time and Trump is underwater in the public opinion polls of his job performance.
And Bush never had the Epstein Files hanging over his head.
Florida pollster and political analyst Mark Schulman is providing us with a detailed look at the parallels between these two misadventures, and how history instructs us that this latest use of force could easily end just as disastrously as our involvement in Iraq.
I’ve crossposted Mark’s article on the Tropic Press website, and you can access it here.
