After 20 years, I shopped at Publix this morning for the last time. Buying bananas next to a crazed lunatic with an AR-15 was not on my bucket list. 🤔

Can I ask what town you were in?

I don't like Publix's support of conservative causes and candidates, but I used to feel a little guilty about going to Publix and only taking advantage of their BOGOs. No longer. All other grocery stores are much further from me, but I no longer give a flying fuck about Publix. Fuck, you Publix.

I don’t want to be in any store with a person carrying a long gun around. How do we know they are not the crazy one who is going to shoot up a place. I will immediately leave any space if I saw a person walking in with a gun. I imagine I would not be alone there are just too many mass shooters/shootings to trust someone who feels the need to go shopping with their long gun.

Exactly. It's a big problem if we can no longer tell who the threat is.

If they are carrying a gun, that is a pretty clear indication of a mental health issue.

And when you leave, be sure to stop by the front desk or call later and tell the manager why you won't be back!

Looks like I’ll be shopping elsewhere. My life and personal safety is worth more than a BOGO.

I'm not generally a Publix shopper, too expensive, but IMO open carry is a huge mistake, shades of the old wild west. When I go to a business these days I look for the large "No Weapons" sign posted on their entrance.

Freaking Florida! What does Publix gain? If I get shot while buying my groceries, can my estate sue Publix for being so darn careless by letting armed people into their stores? So ridiculously scary.

I like shopping at Publix. It's clean, well stocked and organized. The employees are helpful and courteous. Shopping there has always been a relaxing experience for me. Now they have made their choice to allow open carry. The first time I see someone open carrying, will be my last time shopping there. I have serious trauma regarding guns, and do not care to subject myself to such an absurd situation. I was told by the administrative office of Publix that local police will be called if there is any problem. We are talking about lethal weapons, not someone engaging in a fist fight. It will be too late when the police arrive. People have very short fuses these days. Having that gun so accessible is a disaster waiting to happen.

I agree and wrote cooperate. Anyone carrying a gun, is clearly walking in fear and their first inclination will be to fight (fire the gun) not flight! Here is the link to make your concerns known: https://www.publix.com/contact/contact-us

THANK YOU!!! I have written to them. Others can do the same, it's very straightforward.

This is a bad call that should be reconsidered. Is there a petition against it? How do we fight back? My wife had an altercation at Publix last week with another angry guy that acted like he was going to pull a gun out. My son also works there and I’m considering having him turn in his notice. This is a bad look for Publix.

I don’t feel safer and I will avoid shopping at Publix in the future. I would never think of bringing my kids to Publix with this new plan to allow open carry. Florida has lost its mind!

We'll go to Winn Dixie until this changes. Anyone who has taken a gun safety course knows that guns drop on the floor or have other causes of accidental discharge.

I've been pulling away from Publix. I love to shop there, but it's so much pricier than alternatives. This is just another reason to find alternatives.

I get most of my groceries at Aldi — a few things at Publix. Over the many years I’ve lived in South St Pete, I’ve seen a couple of altercations at Publix. The addition of guns to those incidents would not have ended well.
