In Florida, a person qualifies for the Baker Act if they have a mental illness, refuse or are unable to volunteer for an examination, and pose a serious danger to themselves or others, or are unable to care for their own basic safety.
I'm a psychologist. I have not examined anyone who was discussed in this article, so I won't comment on your conclusion. But I can say that your analytic method here is sensible and logical.
In addition to voting, there is something else that people can do. Polls show that roughly 20% of US adults identify as MAGA and support Trump - for example, they state that they believe that Trump is handling the economy well. But that's 20% of all Americans. Among Republicans, the numbers in the polls are about 60% supporting Trump. When will Republican elected officials decide that it might be in their best interest to go against Trump? When it gets to the point that 40% or fewer of Republicans support Trump. So perhaps the most powerful people in the USA at the moment are Republicans who are at least somewhat open minded.
One other scenario - when the nation's primary elections have been completed, Republican elected officials will not face a Trump-backed candidate in a primary soon. Instead, they will face Democrats and Independents in a general election in November. So it might make sense to remind them that opposing Trumpism could have a positive impact on their electability - at least for the rest of this year.
Can we can we please? Someone call the police to baker act this crazy. Anyone who says he aces dementia tests is crazy. Oh and can’t distinguish a boo from a cheer or exactly the amount of people who dislike him and show it everyday. Honestly, why is cholesterol not doing its job??He’s so afraid he wants to build a secure ballroom but goes to basketball games and puts a monstrosity on the White House lawn in the open? I can initiate a Baker Act...or , sight unseen, take the info to the Mental Health Court in Florida and a judge deems that the person can be 'detained for an involuntary inpatient evaluation. It would be interesting to start that process !!
In the world we live in I pray for miracles and I know they happen,, the orange man and his henchmen are destroying the country and world for oil and money,, we need to resist and hope for a political revolution
Yes, the Baker Act sounds reasonable, but we are not living in reasonable times, and we certainly do not have a reasonable Congress... But the thought is a good one... Of course a plan to have him removed from office is always a great idea and one I keep hoping for... and I keep hope alive because "hope means despair doesn't get the last word.... " And we breathe... and vote BLUE
November is coming. (Deliberate nod to Game of Thrones). My personal view is that if Byron Donalds wins the governorship, Florida is lost. Every single one of us should be throwing ourselves into winning that race. My favorite activity is canvassing. I love talking to voters.
How dangerous the Baker Act could be in Florida. Imagine DiSantis rounding up the ‘crazies’ who disagree with him and his fascists ass kissers. I shudder at the thought.
How about charging his family and handlers with elder abuse? What caring family would put a clearly deranged and visually ill elder out in public where he’s a daily subject of ridicule and is also a very clear danger to himself and others…the entire World by now…and it worsens every minute.
There is a standard of "causing harm to self or others" to lock someone up at least temporarily in a psychiatric facility. Trump is well documented as causing harm to others. As for self, a quick glance at recent photos or videos shows a bloated, distorted, and unhealthy face, so he is definitely causing harm to himself. Baker Act indeed!
Lets not forget that during Trump's first term, a group of psychologists and psychiatrists alerted the media about how unfit was the president. Trump has, in my opinion, cluster B personality disorder.
The problem is that Republicans in Congress want to retain power and lobby money so desperately that they prefer to look the other way.
