STUDIES IN STUPIDITY Vol. 5
Georgia Congressman decides it's his turn to rewrite Jan. 6 history. His take: the insurrectionists were a bunch of sweet grandmas out for a stroll
When Georgia Rep. Mike Collins revisits the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, he doesn’t see what we see—a raging mob breaking windows, assaulting police officers, and threatening the lives of our elected officials.
No, for him it’s peaceful grandmothers touring the seat of government, and innocents unfairly slammed into solitary confinement.
Collins, a gun-toting election-denier, took the occasion of the fourth anniversary of the insurrection (egged on by his hero, Donald Trump) to rewrite history. Ironically, his social media post arrived on the same day President Joe Biden warned that the lunatic fringe would try to do just that.
Here’s Collins on Twitter (currently known as X):
“On #ThisDayInHistory in 2021, thousands of peaceful grandmothers gathered in Washington, D.C., to take a self-guided, albeit unauthorized, tour of the U.S. Capitol building.”
“Earlier that day, President Trump held a rally, where supporters walked to the Capitol to peacefully protest the certification of the 2020 election. During this time, some individuals entered the Capitol, took photos, and explored the building before leaving.”
“Since then, hundreds of peaceful protestors have been hunted down, arrested, held in solitary confinement, and treated unjustly. Countless hours and taxpayer dollars have been spent pursuing innocent grandmothers and raiding President Trump’s home, while terrorists and millions of illegal immigrants continue to cross our nation’s borders, causing havoc in our communities. Thankfully, President Trump has announced that, on day one of his presidency, he will grant pardons to nonviolent defendants.”
So, several questions come rushing to mind. Make your selections:
A. Does Collins callously believe that his constituents are so ignorant that they won’t remember what they saw with their own eyes?
B. Are they?
C. Is he so stupid that he actually believes this hogwash himself?
D. All of the above.
Personally, I’m going with D. Seems a little cruel to insult all the people of Georgia’s 10th Congressional District by suggesting they could be dumb enough to believe Collins’ nonsense. Then again, a majority elected him.
(Of course, I live in the Gunshine State, home of Florida Man Ron DeSantis, so Georgia hasn’t exactly cornered the market on dunderheaded behavior.)
That said, Collins certainly has set a high bar for anyone to clear in our first-annual Studies-In-Stupidity Olympics. But the year is still young.

These are brilliant. I hope it’s a hit
