You are so right! Florida deserves what is unique to us.
While you have recognized the GOP legislatures responsible for doing what would be right for our State, I'd like to add that even a blind squirrel can find a nut once in awhile. Here's to all the beautiful flamingos!
Matter of history: I believe the mockingbird was in our literature and culture “mockingbird hill”, Stephen Foster, Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, etc. emphasized the mocking bird. The flamingo, as far s I am aware, is a South Florida native (very south), and represents only the “newcomers”, Yankee (not necessarily a pejorative term) but not Florida-born native! Are we back to “pork chop hill”trying to push aside and ignore the norther part of Florida? Are we reverting to the very southern part of the state, mostly fairly “newly arrived” Northerners? Not Native born? People who don’t remember the FL Barge Canal fiasco, and moonshine stills with frogs in them? Rattlesnake Roundups at “Humphrey’s “Gold Mine” with the sheriff’s posse on horseback and carrying “Croaker sacks?
I'm a newbie to JC's substack, and have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of his uplifting and often funny perspective on Florida living. Being a "Yankee" transplant as one commenter put it (I'm a NY Mets fan), I never understood why the Mockingbird represented our beautiful sunny state. We deserve to have a bird that is truly unique to Florida. I love the beautiful flamingo that stands proudly with 1 foot on the ground. Their bright pink, white, and coral feathers fit in with our Florida decor. The regal Flamingo has my vote.
The flamingos at Monkey Jungle have been wonderful…and forgotten by the Republican dominated and corrupt Government! No way should any creature be subjected to the cruelty, stupidity and non scientific Republican Serfs! We would lose all of them and nobody would care!
I don't hate the idea...but with republicunts, you always have to wonder what's their REAL motivation. Like it's tacked onto some heinous legislation, or something is stuck into this one. And just because it's bipartisan...politicians are no saints, no matter how they identify.

Wow, they are doing something good instead of some of that strange legislation curtailing our rights.
Now put it them on the license plate, the orange unfortunately is all but dead.
