Wow!!! Hispanics and others in Miami are starting to smarten up. A new Democratic Mayor in Miami is terrific. While this is only a small portion of SE Florida I think this result speaks volumes for what is ahead. The GOP and the current administration in Florida and Washington don't care about anyone but white people with money. The map that the governor wants to draw now looks like a donut in the southeast with Miami missing. Keeps getting uglier and uglier.
Thank you Miami---about time people began to see the REAL picture overall. A orange face narcisstic vindictive bully that can't or won't follow doctrine established to guarantee rights of the U.S. Citizens and won't stay in guidelines for now. this is a great start to get both sides back on track. Term 1--began the divisive comments that opened the gap between the red and blue---nobody apparently even attempted to do a balance on the comments--if they did nobody listened. Keep moving --lots of changes needed. all the illegal "support" will be show when all the war crimes are acted on. Trump wants to use past laws in his benefit--but when the law goes against his actions--he wants it removed. time to wake up everyone.
I never understood why, after Trump's initial dive into the 2016 race with his famous ride down the escalator and then a speech calling Hispanics criminals, and saying, well, maybe some are good people, Hispanics of any stripe would vote for him. His racism goes back to his discriminating against people of color when he ran apartments in Queens. The idea that Democrats are socialists on the order of Castro is ridiculous. Cubans used to vote Republican because they had dreams that somehow, the Republicans were going to kick Castro out of Cuba and they would be able to return. But the vast majority of Hispanics in Florida are immigrants or the children of immigrants who have come to the United States from Cuba, Central America, and South America since 1959. Why they lost their way from supporting Hillary in 2016 to becoming MAGA can be explained but it has nothing to do with truths and a knowledge of economics. Trump helped cause the inflation that Joe Biden got stuck with. I think Hispanics are waking up. This election was Democratic landslide and I think bodes well for the 2026 midterms. Republicans think by breaking up sold Democratic districts created to help elect blacks is going to help them. It may actually increase the number of seats they will lose. With a shift of 15pts from Trumps totals to the Democrats will make many more districts competitive.
It’s funny all the people who voted for him the convicted criminal Because they didn’t want a woman to be president, a partially black woman to be president, yet support a racist white man who has done nothing for this country except causes chaos. Now that all the voters for dump Trump realize just how real he really is, now they’re gonna change their mind. Can you say too late, and guaranteed some of them still haven’t learned it.
Fingers crossed that she doesn't brush the needs of Black American under a rug, we've been pointing out and calling out various things for the longest. Too many sat up feeling as if they were above the fires that some have even set for us, and then when the fires reached their homes they wanted help. In order for change to be real, it can't be more of the same just from a different wing because both sides have bent over backwards to corporations. I can't praise blue or red, I need to see the actions of the person given the job. So, we shall see.
Solid analysis on the momentm shift. The 18-point margin is especially telling because Miami has nearly equal Dem-Republican voter registration, which means Higgins pulled significant crossover support. What makes this more than just a local race is that Miami's Hispanic electorate has been a GOP stronghold, so when that demographic swings double digits toward a Democrat it suggests messaging issues Republicans cant ignore. The fact that economic concerns and ICE enforcement tactics both played a rol shows this wasnt single-issue voting.
Fantastic analysis of the momentum factor here. The 18-point gap is way bigger than just a local upset, it shows a baseline shift. What's gonna be interesting to watch is wheter this translates into sustained organizing infrastruture or just rides the wave of anti-Trump sentiment that might fade if economic conditions improve.
I agree --I have a concern apparently when these ICE agents go into an area---only blue areas be accessed. why not Miami??? little cuba??? that would possible resolve many issues. How bout the drug issues in Florida??? knows serious for generations--but still on the move--shoot a few little boats? okay but how bout the planes, foot traffic from south to north across borders. if action to be taken--equal on all stares and areas of concern.
Thanks Miami! We’re looking at you here in The Villages! Vote 🗳️ BLUE IN 2026!
