I went to Denmark and Netherlands on an educatoin trip: they thought we still had gangsters in the big cities and covered wagons in central U.S. The appearamces now are either of back to cowboys here--personal armies?/ really. accompany that with Trumps use of non-military personel as an extra police force being used as a Gestapo type force dealing with civilians. In addition: taking away the states from investigating issues is wrong as well. where are we going--??
Thank you for the article on the Florida State Guard. I had no idea it existed. Fortunately, we won’t have to put up with DeSantis much longer. I hope someone with integrity will be elected. I appreciate the information you provide about our state and for Ms. Mingo’s tongue in cheek column that helps to keep me from going over the edge.
I truly appreciate everything you do to keep us updated and am seriously disheartened that there is so little we can actually do! And all suggestions are welcome!
We can contact our state legislators for me mostly Democrats and tell them not to vote this ridiculous nonsense up! Of course they are outnumbered by Republicans! Maybe they will get a conscience and vote it down!
What’s super funny is when these butt kissing maga supporters all run for President they drop bombs on each other and when the orange one is in they kiss each others rear…hilarious.
DeSantis' implementation of a defacto "separate personal-private army " is walking a very fine line viz: the Florida Constitution. Florida has entered memorandum agreements with ICE under USC 287(g), allowing certain state agencies (including the State Guard) to receive delegated authority to assist in immigration enforcement. These agreements must align with federal law and oversight; they don’t create independent state immigration powers.
Federal courts have blocked parts of Florida’s broader immigration law on the grounds that states may not regulate immigration in areas reserved for the federal government (Supremacy Clause).
Actions by state forces that attempt to enforce immigration law outside the scope of federal delegation could be challenged as unconstitutional. Likely not permissible as a governor’s unilateral act under state law and would raise federal constitutional issues because:
Florida law restricts guard use to state and EMAC, (interstate pact agreement), purposes.
Immigration enforcement is a federal responsibility, and states cannot commandeer immigration enforcement in a way that conflicts with the Supremacy Clause.
Challengers could argue such actions exceed statutory authority and violate federal constitutional principles; courts would analyze state law, interstate compacts, and federal preemption doctrines.
Now, this type of mismanagement scandal the FL State Guard is enmeshed in comes at a bad time for Ron DeSantis who still wants to run for President but needs to have Republican backing as well as a "squeeky clean" record to keep a positive national profile.
In short, plenty of opponent fodder for the Governor while Florida tax payers are inadvertently backing his personal political agenda.
Thank you for boosting this story. Not only had I not heard about the current drama, but I was completely unaware we had made (reinstated) our own state guard. Crazy.
The problem is and will remain until the day he either dies or leaves the office he’s unqualified for this position. He’s a convicted criminal. Has no business running the country, although I have to say he’s running the country but into the ground.
If only voters who approve of Donald Trump's record of accomplishments during his first year (of his second term) in office vote Republican this Fall, the only Republicans who win will be those who run unopposed. That would upend the supposedly "safe" congressional districts and provide Democrats with a veto-proof majority.
There is simply no end to the corruption.
DeSantis is DeDevil. Just like Trump we warned about him too…

I do not support using our Floridians as National Guardians on Immigrant Capturing projects.
Keep our Guardians within Florida - and not guarding the Alcatraz prison we have....an embarrassment!

Great dissemination! I wasn't aware.

Can we Baker Act the cheeto or invoke the 25th or at least charge him and all his supporters with reckless endangerment?
Great stuff! Thank you.

The trump graft and lies are horrendous and the chaos is his bread and butter.. he thrives on it.
The state of Florida has been ruined by the current governor.
This little army should not be part of any democracy!
