This is not normal: The Florida Man at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. is obsessing about nukes, Nigeria, and Seth Meyers
News and views for thoughtful Floridians and other Americans
The angry Florida Man who lives in the White House, has piled on more evidence of his instability.
Just a sample:
King Donald the Wannabe has announced that the Pentagon should renew its testing of nuclear weapons because other countries are doing the same thing, and we shouldn’t be left out of the fun.
Even though:
No other country on planet Earth is currently testing nuclear weapons, nor have they done so for years.
The Pentagon, headquarters of the Department of Defense, which Trump likes to call the War Department, is not in charge of testing atomic or hydrogen bombs. That responsibility lies with the Department of Energy.
So, we have a man who brags about the large red button on his desk who doesn’t know the first thing about the status of worldwide nuclear arms testing and he doesn’t know who in his very own government would do that testing, yet he’s in charge of launching all those missiles.
Not exactly comforting.
Meanwhile, our erstwhile King Donald, still pouting over not winning the Nobel Peace Prize, is looking for ways to start wars:
He’s sent an armada off the coast of Venezuela to bombard military installations in that country because he believes they are in cahoots with drug smugglers.
And now he’s threatening to send troops to the African country of Nigeria “guns-a-blazing” because they are killing one another over there.
Never mind that the Constitution of the United States, which he swore an oath to uphold, reserves to Congress the power to declare war on other nations.
And would-be King Donnie—who campaigned as a champion of the First Amendment—has now decreed that anyone who “criticizes Trump” may be a traitor, specifically singling out late-night TV host Seth Meyers who he says may be illegally making fun of him.
Here’s his post:
And while Americans face a hunger crisis wth the impending loss of food stamps, our commander-in-chief seems more obsessed with redecorating the White House bathrooms—gotta love that new chandelier and all the gold plating—than children who may go without meals.
I could go on, but I’m actually traveling, and had hoped to take a few days off. But unlike House Speaker Mike Johnson, I do have plans to get back to work. But I couldn’t let all this pass without comment.
One of the great dangers here, besides Trump himself, is that the constant bombardment of this insanity wears down our sensibilities over time; it begins to feel like business as usual.
This is not normal. This is dangerous.

Let me also take a moment of your time to thank all of you reading this, and for subscribing and supporting this initiative. Tropic Press is part of a growing number of independent news and commentary sites on Substack, and our goal here is to create original commentary on the news that can be shared and discussed with a vibrant and growing community of engaged citizens.
Most of the focus is centered on my native state of Florida, but let’s face it, the Gunshine State is still an appendage of the larger United States and sometimes, like today, what happens outside the boundaries of the Free State of Florida impacts us here too.
Because this newsletter reaches more than 300,000 readers, I also will continue to share excellent journalism from other writers that otherwise might not make its way to everyone’s attention. Some of those contributors have included the outstanding news staff at Florida Phoenix, independent investigative journalist Jason Garcia, political analyst David Silverberg, ProPublica writers, and reports from other publications.
I deeply appreciate your support, and I encourage you to follow links to the aforementioned publications and writers and support their work as well. And just as they generously allow their work to be shared, please take a moment to share these reports so we can continue to grow our community of like-minded readers.
Thank you.
