JC, thanks for the trip down Route 66. the show was a favorite of my family's, and my parents took us across the whole journey in a mad dash to see how many states we could visit in one trip. It was a blur, but it was an adventure!
I so remember watching this as a little. My sisters swooned over both of them . . thank you for the pictures. And thank you for the columns. I read them and post them .
I recall being fascinated by that Route 66 show as a--whatever you call someone between 12 and 16 years old. As a sort-of-mature adult, I got to live for many years practically next to the Mother Road in Arizona. It was one of my favorite motorcycle rides. I "wasted" as much time as possible on it. It is far more important than Trump and his MAGA morons ever thought of being.
“Standin’ on a corner in Winslow, Arizona...” An interesting town along Historic Route 66 worth visiting. Yes, there’s a flatbed Ford parked there. When we visited a number of years ago there was still one of those “Sleep in a Teepee” motels or “Motor Courts” in Winslow. The Pixar movie “Cars” is a pretty cool tribute to Route 66, as well…
Indeed, the show Route 66 made its way to Maine in my youth, where Buz and Tod somehow got involved in lobster fishing -- some sort of local dispute being the normal scenario -- and the star of that show, for all of us in the Maine fishing industry, was the brand new lobsterboat owned by William "Billy" Floyd, built in Jonesport, Maine, by legendary boatbuilder Harold Gower, that the producers contracted for the show. Big excitement on the waterfront. That boat was still being used commercially in the mid-2010s, and may still be in use.
