Growing up in the 1950s, I learned that Republicans were the party of rich people, independent tradesmen, and some farmers (later I learned words like 'bourgeoisie and petit-bourgeoisie to describe them scientifically), while the Democrats were working people (my father was an insurance agent and a Republican, my uncle was a welder and a Democrat). That there were so many more workers than owners defied logic that Republicans ever won elections at all.
At this point, the Republicans have really cooked the goose and by any account, the Democrats would solidly overturn this monopoly of the rich and wannabe rich. The wee problem is that the institutional Democrats have ceased to be the party of working people and are barely distinguishable from Republicans in policy that really matters. That said, if we can find genuine working class Democrats to run for office, they would win elections hands down.
On the topic of Spirit: there's a group trying to buy Spirit out before private equity can get it all! Anyone can pledge to help buy the assets, and if the group gets enough pledges, they can make a bid! The full details are at https://letsbuyspiritair.com/ . Make sure to be careful about the url though, a bunch of scammers bought similar domains to trick people.
I'm very excited to hear Project 140 is working, I was concerned when I noticed they didn't have a large social media following on Instagram or Facebook. Suspicious that they might be strategically silenced on the platforms. I think your newsletter likely helped a lot, it's where I learned about it.
