The registration numbers were very hard to overcome--the GOP has 37% more registered voters than Dems in the state. Nevertheless they took an expected 12 to 14 point loss into a 1 or 2 and that's not nothing. Georgia overcame similar numbers.
Honestly, we need to build on the momentum rather than wondering why we're not already winning after one wave.
Tropic Press post-election stats like these , is 'momentum'. Informing is empowering. Rather than frequent blame game about not enough campaign or party contributions or people don't care enough to vote or voters are stupid....it is not just one factor, and we need to get aware of that. Otherwise slick politicians like Ronnie De (and his buddies Heritage Foundation, Freedom Caucus, etc.) takes advantage of that gap in people's lack of it, then smoothly slides a wedge to cause division. His Amendment 3 did that so well. His Parental Contract, pure division among voters. Maybe we can learn from Blue counties and get involved, engaged, informed....now, today.

Locally Jennifer Jenkins ( she was the former school board member who was severely attacked by Randy Fine and his followers) lost her race against US Rep Haridopolos. He is popular and deeply entrenched in Brevard and had over 3 million vs. Jennifer’s 350 K. 2 years ago he won by 22%….this time it was 8% !
Gotta agree with Alisa. The DNC did nothing. Where were the heavy hitters for Angie or David Jolly?
If any state deserved to be flipped it’s the one having the audacity to set up and support “Alligator Alcatraz”
Free State of Florida my ass! Sorry! It’s early and I still cringe crossing the state line into a now “bluer” Georgia and now gotta tolerate four more years of Byron “So DJT wannabe” Donalds!
Those two campaigns did what the you do in a campaign….work for each and every vote! Door to door, calls, sit downs with friends and family.
Hard discussions with those still suffering from GOP Kool aid withdrawal!!
Just irritating as I read a comment on BlueSky of what Florida Dems feel like…
Being an 8th grader held back, while watching all your friends moving on to high school!! ☹️🤬🤷♂️
I’m extremely disappointed in Florida, this was there chance for change as well as stand united with the rest of the world and the blew there chance , they will always be remembered for supporting the biggest LIES Trump and the delusional republicans were shoving down their throats, then regurgitating them to make sense!!! Shame on all those that voted for the disgraceful corrupt administration. Funny, how every one else got it right but FLORIDA! P.S. I live in Florida and voted against those corrupt, lying, conspiracy theorists, that took your savings away and raised the cost of live! Now you can live with as a republican nitwit!
David Jolly lost the Florida governor's race by about 1.3 points — roughly 110,000 votes out of nearly 8 million cast.
Now consider this. Over the weekend and on Election Day, Florida's east coast got buried: 15 to 20 inches of rain in 12 hours in southern Brevard County — forecasters called it a once-in-a-thousand-year event. A Flash Flood Emergency went out for Palm Bay and West Melbourne. Nineteen polling places across seven counties — Brevard, Broward, Palm Beach, St. Lucie, Martin, Indian River — were moved 45 minutes before polls opened. Roads were underwater. One woman in Port St. Lucie spent hours just trying to vote.
And two of the hardest-hit counties, Broward and Palm Beach, are the most Democratic-leaning big counties in the state.
Research says every inch of rain above average costs about a point of turnout. In a race decided by 1.3 points — you do the math. Come back with a fact.
Thank you for bringing this to everyone's attention, our governor certainly is not showing up. So many in despair, walking 30 minutes knee high water to get their parked car at a gas station to get to work, one story. Although we truly need to drop the 'once-in-a-thousand year's tag.....this is the new normal, search meteorologist John Morales explanation.
Having significant contact with naturalized citizens in Florida, most of them register as republicans...to stay under the radar. And they all state that many of the people they know do the same.
Republicans bought this election from within. The question now is what is the strategy for making those elected visible and accountable?
The absence of National funds from the party and the senate committee was clear. In the Palm Beach T.V. market area I saw not one commercial for Nixon, and the Jolly adds where probably one for every three for Donalds. Sorry you don't win elections without some traditional media advertising. Also, all you need to do with some of my generation is throw up a few pictures of Che and Fidel and say the magic words "Socialism" or "Communism" and the color in the Republican bubble. On the other hand the dumbomandering backfired, the U.S. House make up looks like it remains 20 to 8.
It wasn’t a puddle at all if you look at all the races and seats that were either flipped or won in spite of gerrymandering. We made great strides here in Florida. Also, the DNC did NOTHING to support several viable candidates because … ISRAEL. Angie Nixon had a legitimate chance of winning but because of her stance on Israel, the three her nary a bone. David Jolly had an amazing show out. So take a look at every race in Florida and also take a look at the change in numbers.
How about moving forward and pushing to get Angie Nixon to replace Hakeem Jeffries as Speaker of the House in Washington, and apparently she does have the right qualifications. She certainly has the experience from a state level. Go Angie!
This is a fair and balanced analysis of the plight of Democrats n Florida. But it took four straight election cycles to finally break through in Texas. 2026 can be considered a first effort as a breakthrough for Florida Dems. Let's keep going.
I saw Nixon and Sanders in tampa a few weeks ago, and their message was heavy on the economy, and despite their railing against oligarchs they couldnt address the economic system which gave rise to such wealthy people, capitalism. And for a DSA member, she didnt bring the fire of DSA messaging, I felt. They could have also railed against amendment 3, or abortion, or the environment, or genocide. Despite all her successes, it could have been a lot more fiery. I wish she could have won, nonetheless.
The Democratic party is incompetent and rudderless. Without democratic socialists or even socialists, the democratic party remains a semi-populist party with no actual values to stand on. Case in point, Pelosi, Schumer and now Jeffries.

Amendment 3 drove Rs to the polls. Without it, there may have been a different outcome. Let’s get weed back on the ballot.

Wasn’t 2020’s spike in Republicans part of Covid “refugees” moving to FL to live in the “free” state?
