Since about the late 1970s, neoliberalism with its false neoclassical economics that preferred financial capitalism (the glorious state of "making money in your sleep"—JS Mill) began its takeover of the American economy. The result has been the degradation of education and infrastructure while industry declined or got shipped off overseas. This kind of economics has yielded increased precarity, homelessness, and a decline in purchasing power of the working class, while the moneyed class (the owners of land and capital) became billionaires, yielding a state of wealth inequality never seen in this country before.
This is the dissatisfaction that Trump used to propel his (fake) MAGA agenda, which in effect only adds increased militarism to the otherwise existing agenda of neofeudalism.
Dear Miss Mingo, As an octogenerian who has lived through 14 presidents (and am now on my 15th), I know this will pass. Our country was not defeated by depression, WW2, Vietnam, Iran-Contra (remember that?), 9/11, the Iraq debacle, Afghanastan, and Trump. The lesson is that we are resilient.
Ms Mingo, I understand that there are over 900,000 holders of worthless $TRUMP MemeCoins. The Trump Store will be adding these as free gifts to any purchaser of the other items offered at the store.
Regarding the subdued July 4th celebrations--an important factor is the heat. Just looking at pictures of the National Mall makes me want to rehydrate. I am a little bit scared of the potential for fires caused by fireworks. Since neither Florida nor the US government wants to admit that it might be hotter than it was 50 years ago, the only possible explanation for the lack of enthusiasm is political....
When I studied Statistics, I learned about the standard distribution known as The Bell Curve. If IQ tests actually measured intelligence instead of cultural competence, the average IQ would land at the top of the Bell Curve and be called '100'. In the geometry of the Curve, most people would measure scores one "standard deviation" on either side of center. This would likely be scores from 90 to 110, and so on, with less and less people measuring farther to the left or right. Of course, this statistical science is not true in Lake Wobegone "where all the children are above average" and of course, not so with President Drumpf.
Stable genius makes him sound like he's smarter than a horse which maligns the equine community. If he's thinking he's the other definition of stable, just watch him walk.
Dear Miss Mingo, while your backhanded comment, "They may be Communists, but they’re not stupid" serves to point out the immense stupidity of American leaders, Communists are in no way 'stupid' and by results are much smarter than their capitalist counterparts. The Soviet Union took a backward agricultural 'empire' and turned it into an industrial powerhouse able to match any other in the world (and defeat Nazi Germany). The Vietnamese were able to defeat the American colonial invaders and drive them out of their country. The Chinese built a world-class economy, strongest in the world while effectively eliminating poverty for millions of people. And Cubans, even under duress if US sanctions, developed innovative and useful agriculture and pharmacology. The former raises ample food without chemical inputs, and the latter is world-class. Of note is Cuba's development of five COVID vaccines, none of which showed the problems of the American products, and even hampered by the scarcity of hypodermic needles (sanctions), managed to vaccinate 90% of the Cuban people.
Although it is a low bar, communists are smarter than capitalists.
