Colbert, Massie ....AND J.C.Bruce, don't back down, thank you!

I’m a devout Democrat but I applaud Mr. Massie’s courage in standing up to the disgusting fat ass creature who sits in the White House. I hope Mr. Massie engages in plenty of ‘good trouble’ as he serves out his term. As for Stephen Colbert, I hope he resurfaces very soon. I’ve had more belly laughs watching him then I could count!

He’s going to work as a political commentator on MS NOW, thus circling the drain of relevancy.

Are we really living in a democracy when big money decides the outcome of elections? I know lots of money is required to spread the qualities and programs of any candidate running for Congress. This is why, in my opinion, how Capitalism decapitates democracy. Campaign and publicity money, as well as private donations should be fair and equal with a reasonable top established by law.

I just can’t wrap my head around why anyone supports a pedophile running the country. Just can’t

I wish all parties fighting for our freedom from Trump and his sycofants God's (or Goddess's) speed! The sooner we can rid ourselves of them, the better!

So true and so sad. Money and Greed now drive American Politics. I blame the Robert’s Supreme Court for much of the mess we are in with their support of 3D (Dumb, Devious and Disgusting) politicians and political games. The GOP is gone. Its now the MAGA Magot Party who build monuments to celebrate their greed with Administration Cheerleaders and spineless members of Congress.

Thanks for the insight into Trump's Pyrrhic Victory unseating Massie. It also emptied the AIPAC war chest considerably, lessening their means to do evil. I have thought that America would be so done with the Trumpian excesses that the Republicans would lose badly this November, and now I can keep up my hopes.

well said! when will other republicans grow some spine and speak out against the corruption, graft, hypocrisy, meanness, ill-considered actions & policies (iran, anti-vac, epstein, irs slush fund, tax evasion, pardoning ALL jan 6, releasing drug lord honduran president, ballroom, ukraine, putin worship, ice bullies, starving cubans, too much to mention)

Very well said Randy too bad that there weren’t 300 million people , who were on the same page as us ! ! !

seems many people are unable to recognize that the current Republicans do not think like the one's we grew up with, and admit they are wrong in supporting them with what's happening today. From (ugh) AI:

Functional MRI studies show that when someone points out our mistakes, the brain's neural pathways react similarly to physical pain—like touching a hot stove. Our natural instinct is to go into fight-or-flight mode to defend ourselves.

Ego/ Identity Protection: We often tie our opinions, beliefs, and choices to our sense of self. Admitting we are wrong feels less like a simple correction and more like a personal failure or a loss of identity

Cognitive Shortcuts: The brain relies on confirmation bias, meaning we subconsciously seek out, remember, and prioritize information that validates what we already believe, while ignoring facts that prove us wrong

Same could be said of the Democrats. If you read the autopsy as to why they lost the 2024 election, it is profoundly vapid and lacking in honest self reflection and introspection. The Democrats have moved so far to the left (socialist/communist) that JFK, nor Teddy Kennedy would recognize them

Hello, good comment. But I'm trying to not immediately counter opinions with "what about this" rhetoric, rather just think about the opinion/fact presented to me and ponder that. So maybe republicans can at least acknowledge some of the truly bad things going on, before they say "what about..."

Generally speaking, the dems of course are the only party where the minority, gays, ethnic, disenfranchised, nerds, freaks & geeks, feel comfortable, as the republican jocks and cheerleaders are generally not welcoming.

Both parties voices seem to be dominated by the vocal far left and vocal far right, and ignore the middle. Republican strategists have successfully positioned the democrats in the minds of many as a party that is solefully focused on transgenders in sports, sheltering immigrants rapists, and giving away money to lazy poor people. Dems botched the Biden/Harris hand-off, did a poor job presenting their case to the American public. Anyone but Trump?MAGA's is a good starting strategy for dem's, but they need a strong statement of their own. Ideally (for me) a meat and potatoes centrist program.

Still the hypocracy and deceit of Trump should be recognized by all. Btw, I voted for Bush1, Bush2, Reagan.

In my prior thread, I forgot to mention supression of the press. Trump has sued every major news source, NYT, WSJ, ABC, CBS, AP for reporting. The emperor truly has no clothes, why doesn't everybody see this?

We are in this ship together...... Sink or swim.

We STAND!

Defiance til death.

Brianms's avatar

Defiance is all well and good BUT the party needs a platform of policies other than Anti-Trump on everything. Have you learned nothing from the 2024 election?

Great column this morning! And thanks so much for explaining your reference Phyrric, I was just going to ask Google to explain.
