The sanest third party seems to me to be Forward. I used to think it was just a vehicle for Andrew Yang to run again, but he’s really in the background now, and they’re focusing on really sane stuff, like outlawing gerrymandering - plus they’re really calling out the divisive and incredibly stupid polarization that has led so many people to despise “politics.” Politics is supposed to be about the common good. In a sane society, people naturally talk to each other about what needs to be done. They don’t fight as if the future and the past were exclusive enemies. What kind of eagle tries to fly with its left wing fighting its right? A very sick and insane one.
As one who supported Nader and came to regret it (though still consider Ralph Nader an American hero who just should not have gone into politics), I can tell you that third parties do not work in this country. At least not for major offices. Third parties only end up being spoilers, often leading to the worst outcome in the eyes of the third party members, as in 2000. (Yes, Bush v Gore was wrongly decided but still that is what happened and Nader's candidacy opened the door to that result.) Third party motives and values may be great, as they indeed are with the Green Party. But they need to be realistic and work within the system we have, not the one they wish we had.
